At Barkyardigans we do not put pets in kennels or crates while they are visiting. Pups are allowed to play in the same area as other pets are allowed to be groomed so there is constant supervision. Special accommodations will be made for any aggressive, elderly, or nervous pets.
We do not accept walk-in appointments. All appointments must be prescheduled. Even for something as simple as a nail-trim you must call to schedule that time in advance.
Pets do not have to stay all day. We do our best to be as efficient as possible. Some pets may need breaks during the grooming session in which they may be required to stay longer. If you need to make special accommodations for a later pick up time please let us know so we can schedule accordingly.
Frequency of grooming depends on the breed, coat type and length, lifestyle and how much brushing and detangling you do at home between grooming appointments. If your dog has a longer hair style or a coat that tends to get tangled, they should be professionally groomed every 4-6 weeks. A dog with a short hair style or short coat can be groomed every 6-8 weeks.
The typical stay at the shop is 2 to 3 hours for small to medium sized dogs. 3-4 hours for larger breeds with heavier under coats. We do our best to get your dog groomed and back home to you in a timely manner. Let’s face it…the least amount of time they are away from you and their home the happier they are!
Yes. We offer deshedding treatments to help with shed control. This is a four step process, involving specific all natural products to help loosen the coat during the bathing and drying process. We then use a tool designed to remove the dead, excessive undercoat. Regular treatments can reduce shedding year round by up to 80%!
If you must cancel an appointment, please try to give us at least 72 hours notice. In some cases pets arriving more than 15 minutes late may need to be rescheduled. No Shows will be noted. After 1 No Shows, you will be required to pay for your grooming appointment in full for any subsequent no shows. If this seems a bit extreme, please understand that we work on an appointment basis. If you miss your appointment, we not only have lost business for the day but also have lost a spot for a customer who could have used it.
We like to see new puppies in our shop as early as 8 weeks of age. It’s never too early to get your dog accustomed to grooming. Your puppy’s first visit will be short and simple. Probably just a bath, blow-dry, nail clipping, and perhaps a little trimming around the face. We need to start very slow and sweet as to not stress the little pup out and to avoid “turning him off” to the grooming process.
Cats do lick their coats, by doing this they are pushing the dirt, dander, and oils deep into their fur. Professional Grooming is necessary in removing dead undercoat for both long and short- haired kitties. Regular Grooming reduces the amount of hairballs. Proper bathing can alleviate the amount of dry or oily skin you may be noticing.
